Today a G4 geomagnetic storm will occur. It is the second highest level of classification. This event could effect communications including cell and GPS. Space weather is a genuine thing. First learned about its potential impacts reading UK gov’s resilience framework. Low frequency events but potential for very high and widespread impacthttps://lnkd.in/eP3QitbK

New appreciation for politicians (no seriously!), news anchors, and anyone else who speaks off a teleprompter. We are in the midst of creating new training videos for our ePCR software and I was recorded for the intro video and had to speak off a teleprompter. As someone who talks fast and likes to move while I present it was much more difficult than I expected!

Hello all! It is time for me to start looking for my next career challenge. If you know of anything where my skills and experience could be of service please let me know. I bring 20+ years of Fire/EMS experience, 5+ years of public management in public/private partnerships, and a crazy intense year (which felt like 5) of Emergency Management experience in DC in 2020/2021. Also a lot of cool stuff I got to study on my Masters, but have not actually gotten to use yet. Happy to work remote or move. One very unique ability I bring is that after moving to both DC and then Philly multiple professional sports teams won their sports finals (Capitals - Stanley Cup 2018 / Nationals - World Series 2019) or at least made it to the finals (Phillies to the World Series 2022, Union to MLS Finals 2022, Eagles to Superbowl 2023). So if you have a struggling sports team, I am happy to move and help out!Lastly to my DC friends, I love y'all but I have been through one Presidential election cycle in the District, don't fancy doing it again. Happy to assist in any way I can, just from a distance! If you hear of any exciting opportunities or are open to chatting, send me a message or comment below! #OpenToWork

Very impressed by how Baltimore City Fire Department handled the initial bridge collapse.Have been listening to the radio traffic of the first 45minutes from time of dispatch.1) Clear and concise communications, particularly from the first engine reporting complete collapse as well as from the initial responding battalion Chiefs2) Chiefs clearly knew mutual aid resources from neighboring jurisdictions, dive and boat assets to air assets and promptly requested them. As well as medical treatment busses.3) Units initially who were dispatched quickly pivoted, particularly with bridge down and traffic to get themselves to locations where they could be an effective asset4) Liaisons were quickly set up with other agencies.5) Dispatcher(s) were strong assets both in initial dispatch and assisting through the incident6) Safety was clearly a huge priority, including alert broadcasting across all tac groups as conditions changed7) Video and camera review to see how many vehicles may have been on the bridge when it collapsedAs always, and not new in the 20+ years I've been involved in this profession, multi agency radio communications could have been better. Mutual aid fire agencies sending boats could join but challenges with LE agencies, Coast Guard, etc.Obviously I am only evaluating from radio traffic available but from what I heard it was professional, competent and effective. This type of response occurs with frequent training and multi-agency exercises. You don't always have to train for the once in a career type incident like a bridge collapse, but every exercise prepares you for the "big one."https://lnkd.in/eCHsRuaj

4 years after things got way too interesting finally a state has completed some semblance of a review. Can't say I'm surprised but I am still disappointed. When I wrote my BA dissertation on evaluating pandemic planning in EMS I was shocked at how little discussions actually revolved around or even included EMS and how a pandemic would affect their operations. However, the catalyst for making that my subject of research was my experience as an EMS Supervisor in '09/'10 with H1N1 and how then I thought I have no idea what we would do if this went sideways.Just because it would take a lot of time, effort, and resources doesn't mean every state AND the national government should be doing reviews and publicly publishing them.Believe it or not, it could actually happen again. Would be nice if we could perhaps have some lessons learned. Call me cray cray!
