Dugan Fife was not a walk on. Thought I’d correct the record.

It was before my time and it's been a long time since I read the Fab Five book, but I thought Dugan Fife was offered a spot on the team after Fisher saw him playing in the rec building? Or am I thinking of someone else?

That wasn't Dugan, who IIRC, contended for Mr. Basketball in MI.
"Fife didn't even take any other visits. He met with Fisher and Jay Smith, and he said, 'I'm coming.'" (Chapter 3)
EDIT: I think you're thinking about Freddie Hunter? He was a walk-on for sure.

Fab Four + Fife… such a perfect follow up name. Should have been a final four team, thanks Clinton!

Dan actually preceded Rudy T at Mich. He played on some pretty good teams with Henry Wilmore and Ken Brady. I attended those games as a student.

A legendary figure on the basketball court and in our community. Great coach. Class guy. He really did seem to know all the kids in the McGrath league and would spend time getting to know the parents too. RIP Coach. You'll be missed.

RIP and way too young. I just attended the funeral of a former boss that also retired in 2018 and was dead at 74.

Dan also pitched for Michigan. On one day in April of 1969, he toed the rubber against Notre Dame. His opposing pitcher was Bob Arnzen, who also played basketball, very well, for the Irish. Neither fared well, as this Daily Article notes: https://digital.bentley.umich.edu/midaily/mdp.39015071754084/747.
Fife, of course, went on to pitch for the Twins while Arnzen played a little in the minors. So much for the prognosticating abilities of that Daily writer (that would be me).
RIP Dan, you will truly be missed.
