Hospital on September 8 of Doreen Matilda VVardlc 75 of Lawnt-y-Pentre Flint Mountain Mrs Wardle was a native of West Derby liverpool and she was the wife of retired naval chief engineer Douglas Wardle to whom she had been married for over 52 years Her husband had been at sea with Blue Funnel Line for nearly 40 years During the last 10 years of her career Mrs Wardle joined him on a number of voyages Her last nine month trip shortly before retirement took her by air to Los Angeles They then sailed across to Tai Wan down to Western Australia to collect a shipment of pig iron for China then on to Vancouver and Panama During the war years Mrs Wardle was in an office post at a Royal Ordnance Factory in Liverpool They had lived in Flint Mountain since 1978 Her main hobbies were baking and flower arranging She is survived by her husband and two daughter Carol Margaret Sorahan and Susan Lynda Gully The funeral service at Blacon Crematorium was conducted by the Rev Philip Owen of Flint Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint was so well known had attended Gorsedd School and during the war years he had been a member of the Home Guard He was the husband ofLaurinda (Lyn) to whom he had been married for over 22 years and he is also survived by his daughter from a previous marriage Yvonne and stepchildren Gary Russell and Linda The funeral service at Pendref Chapel Brynford Street was followed bv burial in Holywell Town Cemetery when the Rev Owen Griffiths officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon 8i Son Holywell and Mrs NORMA JONES ST Church Hawarden was packed for the funeral of Norma Jones of Old Mold Road Ewloe who died at her home on September 29 after a short illness Norma was born in Liverpool were she worked for many years as a hairdresser moving to Deeside in the early 70s to marry For a number of years she ran her own hairdressing salon in Queensferry For most of her life Norma held down a full-time job as well as giving top priority to looking after her family She recently spent nine years working for Convatec on Deeside and will be sadly missed by the many friends she made there After celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary in August she was due to fly out to America on holiday at the beginning of October She is survived by her husband Chris daughter Jo-Ann and son Steven Donations were shared between the Hospice of the Good Shepherd at Backford and Clare House Hospice for terminally ill children at Clatterbridge The funeral service on October 11 was followed by burial at Hawarden Cemetery when the Rev Thelwell officiated Arrangements: Gerald Wright Son Queensferry Mr EDWARD STANLEY CLARKE THE death occurred on October 5 at Wrexham Maelor Hospital of Edward Stanley Clarke of High Street Caergwrle and formerly of Bryn Awel Platt Lane Penyffordd Mr Clarke was the husband of Vi to whom he had been married for 62 years He served in the RAF throughout World War two and did tours of duty which included France India and Burma He was awarded the Burma Star and 1939-45 war medals Mr Clarke came to live in Wales in 1949 and joined the staff of Broughton Aircraft Factory where he remained until his retirement He is survived by his wife daughters Carol and Jean and granddaughters Suzanne Catherine Jennifer and Deborah The funeral took place on October 12 A service at Hope Parish Church was followed by burial in Hope Cemetery when the Rev Gerald Griffiths officiated Arrangements: Williams Cymau The funeral service was at Chester Road Presbyterian Church Flint followed by cremation at Colwyn Bay when the Rev Hodge officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Miss ENID EDWARDS THE death occurred at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on September 23 of Enid Edwards 87 of Moldsdale Road Mold Miss Edwards was born in Padeswood the second of three children of John and Margaret Edwards She later moved to Gas Lane where her railway signalman father was in charge of the Treuddyn junction signal box At the time of her retirement Miss Edwards was at the ambulance centre where she had been control assistant for many years She was actively involved in community affairs and one of those w'ho formed a community car service for the town For five years she was driver organiser A keen cyclist in her younger days she was a member of the Red Cross and had also worked as a volunteer in Mold Cottage Hospital She was a faithful member of Bethesda Welsh Presbyterian Chapel in New Street She was a visitor of the sick for the chapel and only two years ago she was presented with the Gee Medal a prestigious award for her long service to the Sunday School She is survived by her niece Dilys Bigham The funeral service at Bethesda Chapel was followed by burial in Mold Cemetery when the Rev Bryn Jones officiated Arrangements: James Hughes Son Mold Mrs LYNNETTE CARROLL THE death occurred at her home on September 15 of Lynnette Car-roll 51 of Wesley Houses Denbigh Road Mold just two weeks after the death of her youngest sister Carol Marie Nicholas 39 who died of cancer at the Nightingale Hospice in Wrexham Lynnette was born in Mold and she was the eldest of six children of Billy and Annie Griffiths of Bryn Garmon She was the wife of Mold postman John they had been married for 27 years and the mother of John Andrew Carroll 1 ier younger son Patrick was killed in a road accident when the car in which he was travelling collided with a brick parapet near Buckley station Lynnette was well known in town having attended St Roman Catholic Primary School and Ysgol Daniel Owen She worked for a while with Glaziers Furniture Shop and flower shop in Wrexham Street She had also been at Sandycroft Dry Cleaners and Satinex on Deeside before she became head waitress at the former Black Lion Hotel in Mold There was a large attendance at the funeral service at St Roman Catholic He was a retired Shotton steelworks engineer the elder son of Stan and Ann Morris His father had been manager of Grocers in Holywell Mr Morris was the widower of his Pentre Halkyn wife Elizabeth known as Bette Morris who died nearly eight years ago They had been married since 1946 In his younger days he had been a keen sportsman playing tennis and table tennis for the county and for North Wales As a golfer he was a member of Holywell Golf Club where he had been captain in 1982 During the war years he served with REME in South Africa and for five years he was based in Italy He is survived by his only daughter Norma The funeral service at St James Parish Church was followed by cremation in Blacon when the Rev Richard Parry officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mr WILLIAM WILFRED NICHOLS THE death occurred at Llys Gwenffrwd Nursing Home Holy-well on September 20 of William Wilfred Nichols 92 of Ochr-y-Bryn Halkyn Mr Nichols a bachelor who moved to Halkyn in 1934 to work as an accountant with the Halkyn Leadmines was born in the Knotting HiilKensington area of London He was at the leadmines up to its closure and had since worked in Mostyn Ironworks and at Birkenhead up to his retirement He was a man who supported the village organisations a former member of the beliringing team at Halkyn Church and a founder member with the late Jean Rim-mer of the Halkyn Pensioners Club He was one who fostered the young talent of the village through his love of cricket and football and one who umpired many cricket matches in his lifetime Nick was in the Royal Observer Corps during the war years and a member of the Royal British Legion He is survived by his nieces and nephews The funeral service at St Church Halkyn was followed by burial in the churchyard when the Rev Kathryn Southerton officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mr ROBERT WILLIAM EDWARDS THE death occurred at his home on September 17 of Robert William Edwards 78 of Strand Park Holywell Mr Edwards was a native of Babell the youngest of six children of the late Mary Elizabeth and Robert Edwards of Pant Ll-wyn Ifan Up to his retirement 14 years ago he had been a gardener at Lluesty Hospital for over 20 years during which time the hospital had been awarded second prize in a Wales in Bloom competition Bob as he Mr FRANK ROBERTS THE death occurred on September 7 at the Countess of Chester Hospital of Frank Roberts 79 husband of Gwendoline Roberts of Ashlea Close Mancot Mr Roberts served for six years in the Welsh Guards during World War Two including two-and-a-half years in North Africa and Italy His hobbies included football and snooker He is survived by his wife to whom he had been married for 57 years and sisters The funeral took place on September 17 a service at St Francis Church was followed by cremation at Chester when the Rev John Thelwell officiated Donations were for the British Heart Foundation Arrangements: Ellis Shotton Hawarden Mrs SHEILA MARY BENNETT THE death occurred on September 13 at the Countess of Chester Hospital of Sheila Mary Bennett 61 of Bryn Hafod Aston Hill Deeside Mrs Bennett was born in Flint and worked as an apprentice hairdresser for Mary Cameron before becoming a hairdresser at Mayfair and continued for many years at home She moved to Aston after her marriage to Raymond Bennett in 1958 Her interests vyere her home and family decorating gardening and lately-walking She loved to travel and had holidays in Portugal Spain Italy Greece Singapore Borneo America Malta Cyprus Israel cruises across the Atlantic and around the Caribbean She is survived by her husband Raymond of 40 years mother Irene Bryne children lan Tony and Nick and grandson Sean The funeral took place on September 20 at the Church of the Holy Spirit Ewloe when the Rev John Thelwell officiated Arrangements Ellis Shotton Hawarden Miss AGNES IAMB THE death occurred at Gian Clwyd Hospital on September 19 of Agnes Lamb 91 formerly of Chester Road Flint Miss Lamb lived all her life in Oakenholt She worked at Oakenholt Paper Mill for 46 years She was a noted soprano soloist As a member of the Shotton Glee Society she took great delight in performing in eisteddfodau throughout North Wales Miss Lamb was a lifelong member of Chester Road Presbyterian Church Flint and was a regular pianist for the Ladies Guild Her cheerfulness and sense of humour will be missed by all who knew her She is survived by her two nephews David and Peter Erasmus and neice Vera Thomas Church which was followed by burial in Mold cemetery when Father Webb officiated Arrangements: James Hughes Son Mold Mr ELWYN MATTHEWS THE death occurred at Coed Duon Nursing Home on September 12 of Elwyn Matthews 79 of Groesf-fordd Greenfield Mr Matthews was born in Greenfield and at the time of his early retirement through ill-health in 1980 he was a foreman at Courtaulds Greenfield having earlier worked as a young man in the Flint works He was the youngest son of a family of nine children his parents being the late Charles Llewelyn and Mary Elizabeth Matthews Having met his Liverpool born wife Florence while holidaying in the Isle of Man in 1954 they married nearly 43 years ago Mr Matthews affectionately known as Mac had been a keen sportsman in his younger days and he was a sergeant in the Holywell Territorial Army Throughout the w'ar he served with the REME where he retained his rank and served for a while in India He was a member of the former Bagillt branch of the Royal British Legion He is survived by his wife son Brian daughter Angela Atherton and three grandsons The funeral service at Roman Catholic Church was followed by cremation in Colwyn Bay when Father Terry Carr officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mrs ALMA SEALBY THE death occurred at Plas Newydd Nursing Home Greenfield on September 18 of Alma Sealby 74 formerly of Glasfrvn Penyffordd Holywell Mrs Sealby a native of Liverpool was the widow of George Sealby known as the and since shortly after his death in 1997 following nearly 48 years of marriage had lived in Prestatyn They moved to North Wales in 1965 to run The Chippie in Gronant They went back to Liverpool after a while but soon retuned to develop The Lazy Acre holiday camp in Tyn-y-Morfa Her husband worked as an agent for Roberts Bakeries of Northwich while Alma and her son Donald ran a shop and their own bakery at Lazy Acre They had lived in Penyffordd for 12 years The funeral service at Colwyn Bay Crematorium was conducted by the Rev Clive Southerton Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mr THOMAS ERIC MORRIS THE death occurred at Gian Clwyd Hospital on September 20 of Thomas Eric Morris 75 of Strand Crescent Holywell Mr ELWYN PIERCE WILLIAMS HE death occurred at Gian Clwyd Hospital on September 6 of Ehvyn Pierce Williams 70 of Awelon Brynford Mr Williams was born in Holywell and he was the youngest of three children of t'lias Jones Williams and his wife Margaret who lived at Bryn Dedwydd in Pen-y-Maes Road He was the husband of Gwyneth and they had been married for 37 years Mr Williams was a well known plumber by trade He served his apprenticeship ith Jack Saunders the former Brynford Street Plumbers and Glaziers and following his National Service with REME he became a plumber with the former Holywell Urban District Council He went on to the Rural District and at the time of his early retirement from De-lyn Borough Council he had served the local authority for over 30 years Before moving to Brynford 15 years ago they had lived a similar period in Clwyd Fair on old Chester Road in Holywell In addition to his greenhouse where he grew tomatoes and cucumbers Mr Williams was also a keen car and motor cycle enthusiast He also loved woodworking making aeroplanes planners and bird houses He is survived by his wife a son and three daughters The funeral service at St Church Brynford was followed by cremation in Colwyn Bay when the Rev Somerville officiated Arrangements: Davies Son Mrs BERM JONES THE death occurred at Gian Clwyd Hospital on August 25 of Beryl Jones 80 of Bryn Dedwydd Nan-nerch Mrs Jones was the widow of well known farmer and sheep dog breeder Eddie Lloyd Jones of Bryn Ffynnon Farm who died in 1994 following 46 years of marriage She was born in Cilcain but had lived most of her life in Gw-ernymynydd one of seven children of the late Jane Jones On leaving school she worked as an assistant in Cafe in Chester Street During the war years she joined the Land Army and worked on farms in IJangwyfan and Nannerch Mrs Jones was actively involved in farming life but she also supported village activities She is survived by her daughter Helen Jones Her son Richard Lloyd Jones died of Leukemia at the age of 20 in 1977 The funeral service at St Church Nannerch was followed by burial in the churchyard when the Rev Roger Pullen officiated Arrangements Davies Son Mr DEREK BRIAN ROBERTS THE death has occurred of Derek Brian Roberts 38 of Moor Lane Holway Holywell Mr Roberts was a native of Penyffordd and he was a son of Astrid Cook and the late Kenneth William Roberts The funeral service at St James Parish Church was followed by burial in Coed Bell Cemetery when the Rev Richard Parry officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mr TREVOR JONES THE death occurred at Gian Clwyd Hospital of retired miner Trevor Jones 78 of Llys Mostyn Trelawnyd Mr Jones a native of Tyldesley Lancashire was the widower of Mary Jones who died two months after moving to Trelawnyd 30 years ago and this followed 25 years of marriage He had been a miner at Morsley Common Coal Field in Lancashire before moving to Point of Ayr Colliery in 1 969 He retired 18 years ago Mr Jones was a keen dancer in his younger days old tyme ballroom but mainly sequence dancing During the war years he had served in the army He is survived by his only son Trevor who lives in Leigh Lancs The funeral service at Chester Crematorium was conducted by the Rev Robert Rowlands Arrangements: Peter Roberts Son Prestatyn Mrs LUMLEY HUGHES THE death occurred at Plas Newydd Nursing Home Greenfield on September 17 of Luntley Hughes 93 formerly of Strand Close Holywell Mrs Hughes was one of eight children of well known farmers and Shire horse breeders the Rowlands family of Gelli Ucha Lloc Three of her five brothers were killed in battle during the First World War Mrs stature gained her the name of Mrs as she was affectionately known in town She was a very kind lady who had worked hard throughout her life to bring up her five children following the death of her husband over 50 years ago She was married in 1929 to bus driver Charles Wilfred Hughes who at the age of 38 died in 1946 Mrs Hughes was well in her when she was forced to give up her cafe work at the Davies Fish and Chip Shop in Holy-well High Street She had earlier worked cafes in Rhyl over many years She was a faithful member of Pendref Methodist Chapel and is survived by her five children The funeral service at Pendref Welsh Methodist Chapel was followed by burial in Seion Chapel Cemetery Carmel when the Rev Owen Griffiths officiated Arrangements: John Sibeon Son Holywell and Flint Mr GEORGE KENWORTHY THE funeral has taken place of George Kenworthy 67 husband of Joan Kenworthy of Harrison Grove Sandycroft Mr Kenworthy who died at Wrexham Maelor Hospital was a native of Deeside and the son of Frank and Annie Kenworthy of Ash Grove He did National Service in Korea as technical adviser to TARA Sargeant with the Mortar Battery of the Royal Artillery Afterwards he had a variety of occupations railway fireman steelworker and club steward at Shotton Royal British Legion Pentre Club and the RAFA Club Quay He was sawyer at Cape Universal in Pentre (now Owens Corning) and Glendale Furniture Sandycroft where he was production foreman for six years and also branch secretary and security officer He then worked at ECL Sandycroft until 1991 He was Deeside Darts League secretary during the 1960s Mr Kenworthy is survived by his wife sons Gary and Robert daughters Shirley and Susan and grandchildren Kathryn Kevin Steven Emma Lee Amanda Laura Karl Kierran Ryan and Adam A service at St Church was followed by
