Bliss, Wagner throw at IC4A/ECACs

FAIRFAX, Va. — Both Bucknell’s Evie Bliss and Saint Francis University’s Cam Wagner threw at last weekend’s IC4A/ECAC Championships held at George Mason University.

Bliss, the former state champion from Union/A-C Valley, finished second in the javelin with a toss of 158 feet, 4 inches. Army’s Brooke Stratman won the event with a throw of 161 feet, 6 inches.

Bliss now heads to the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries in Lexington, KY., May 22-25. She’ll be among 24 throwers looking for a top-12 finish and a trip to nationals at the University of Oregon June 5-8.

Right now, Bliss ranks fifth in the Eastern Region with her season-best throw of 173 feet, 9 inches. Nationally, that throw ranks 21st.

Wagner, the Redbank Valley graduate, finished a successful freshman season with the Red Flash at last week’s meet with an eighth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 154 feet, 1 inch.

Another former Bulldog and four-time All-American NCAA Division III high jumper Sam Hetrick was scheduled to compete this Wednesday and Thursday at the All-Atlantic Region Championships in Cortland, N.Y., looking to qualify for nationals.

CCCB 12, Shaffer & Sons 6

Elliott & Kriebel Lead Clarion County Community Bank Team Past Shaffer & Sons (Emlenton). Trevor Elliot had a big day at the plate, collecting three hits in three at bats. Elliott doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the first and fourth.

CCCB got on the board early after Elliott and Alec Norbert singled, Noah Kriebel and Rhett Traister both walked, and Linken Kaetzel sacrificed all scoring runs in the first inning. It added to the early lead in the bottom of the second when Owen Coradi walked in a run and Kriebel singled in another.

Kruz Libecco earned the win on the bump, pitching two innings, no runs on no hits, and striking out two. CCCB collected 13 hits as Elliott led the team with three hits, Mason Coradi and Norbert both added two, and Libecco, Owen Coradi, Kriebel, Kaetzel, Rhett Traister, and Hank Traister all added one hit. Kriebel led the team with three RBI’s.

Despite leading by as many as four runs, CCCB fell to Wolf’s Camping Resort (Knox) 5-4. CCCB jumped out to a lead in the first inning when Owen Coradi singled, scoring two runs, Linken Kaetzel drew a walk to score a run, and Alec Norbert singled to score a run. Wolf’s captured the lead in the fifth inning when Logan Graham singled in the go ahead run.

Trevor Elliott got the start on the mound for CCCB. The righty surrendered two hits and one run in two innings of work. Coradi and Norbert each collected two hits for CCCB and Kruz Libecco added one. Logan Graham and Geno Biffano led the Wolf’s team with two hits each.

Chop Shopp 5, Swartfa*ger Welding 2

The kids from the Chop Shopp team finally got to play some ball, after being the lone Rimersburg team that got rained out on Opening Day. Carson George and Sloan Whitmer led the way for the team to a win over Swartfa*ger Welding (Knox), both going 3 for 3 at the plate. Paxton Culbertson, Grayson Campbell, and Grayson Coy each added two hits and Owen Deitz, Dean Johnson, Kason Deitz, Dylan Beichner, and Colton Morris all got one hit each.

WEDNESDAY, May 1

CCCB 7, Heeter Lumber 1

The Clarion County Community Bank team from Rimersburg got on the board first when Noah Kriebel drew a walk to score a run in the second inning. The team added three runs in the third when Owen Coradi tripled, scoring Kruz Libecco, Hank Traister, and Trevor Elliott. Coradi, Libecco, Mason Coradi, and Rhett Traister all pounding out two hits each for CCCB. Elliott, Hank Traister, and Alec Norbert all added one hit each. Kriebel, Greyson Whyte, and Linken Kaetzel all drew key walks to either score a run or advance runners.

Mason Coradi toed the rubber for CCCB and threw three strong innings, giving up one run on two hits, striking out six with zero walks.

Sawyer Davis and J Watkins led the Newbie team with two hits each.

Toth Tourney postponed

NEW BETHLEHEM — The 13th Annual Tut Toth Memorial Tournament is scheduled for last weekend at the New Bethlehem Little League Complex was postponed due to wet weather and poor field conditions.

The tournament was moved to this Saturday with games are scheduled on both fields at 10, noon, 2 and 4 p.m.

Activities between and during games include face painting, raffles and other events. Lunch is available Saturday starting at 11 a.m. until sold out. A pulled pork sandwich meal and fresh cut fries will be sold along with regular concessions.

On Friday, May 24, the home run derby and skills competition for majors and minors baseball and softball will be held.

All proceeds from the weekend go to the Tut Toth scholarship account. This spring, four scholarships will be awarded at Redbank Valley to graduating seniors.

Fly fishing clinic set for June

SENECA — A local chapter of the Fly Fishers International is hold a two-day clinich focusing on fly casting skills development.

The dates are June 8 and 15 at Cranberry High School in Seneca near Oil City from 10 a.m. to noon each Saturday. It’s open to ages 12 or older with children ages 12 to 17 needing to be accompanied by an adult.

Two different levels of instruction are available — foundational and bronze, which is more of an advanced instruction.

Pre-registration and payment ($35 for foundational and $50 for bronze) must be paid prior to the June 8 start date.

Hunter Trapper course set for Limestone

LIMESTONE — A Hunter Trapper Education Basic course for hunters 11 years old on or before Saturday will be held at the Limestone Fire Hall along Route 66 south of Clarion June 15 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

You must complete the online Today’s Hunter & Trapper in PA course before attending your class. You will find this link at the bottom of the page. To complete the course, participants must complete the on-line study course prior to June 15.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the local Millcreek Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, NWTF volunteers
